Working towards a “High Standards UK”

Project summary

Help Civil Society Alliance develop a robust Theory of Change for its activities, and identify what outcome measures might be useful in judging its success.

How will this project benefit the organisation?

This project is crucial to the longer-term future of the Civil Society Alliance. It will help it to address strategic questions including: what form might the organisation take; what activities should they prioritise; what levels of resourcing would be necessary to achieve desired outcomes; and the biggest question of all, how important is it that the organisation continues beyond the first three years. It will also support conversations with suitable potential funders.

Project description

Civil Society Alliance aims to provide a unified voice for the civil society (third) sector in pursuing high standards of rights and environmental protections in the UK. It is a coalition established by civil society organisations from across the UK to scrutinise and influence constitutional, administrative and legal changes to the UK policy landscape. It was set up in 2022 to enable dialogue between civil society, government and citizens on the raft of changes associated with Brexit, with an initial three years’ funding.

Two years on, it is preparing for what might happen beyond the third year. The first steps are to update and strengthen its current Theory of Change in order to articulate, review and communicate its work and value, and to identify suitable outcome measures.

The volunteer will be asked to facilitate a workshop with the CSA’s Project Manager and Advisory Group, to jointly reach conclusions on the Theory of Change; and to advise on suitable outcome measures.

The volunteer should have experience in logic models, influence diagramming, Theory of Change or similar, and be able to adapt this experience to the Theory of Change approach. They should also be confident in facilitating workshops on line.

At the end of the project, the client would have a document, agreed by the primary stakeholders, articulating their desired outcomes and impact and showing how their activities, inputs, and outputs lead to these outcomes. Alongside that, it will have some measures that can be used to demonstrate its achievements to date and potential progress.
