Transport and Logistic

What is TLSIG?

TLSIG aims to create a forum for exploring the latest developments, methodologies, and innovations in OR for transport and logistics. The group provides opportunities for professionals across academia, government, and industry to collaborate and share insights, offering practical solutions to real-world problems.

By focusing on transport, TLSIG emphasises methods to optimise the flow of goods and people, strategic planning of networks, route optimisation, and resource utilisation within well-defined operational boundaries. Logistics, on the other hand, broadens this scope to include supply chain design, inventory management, and distribution strategies.

Our Mission

  • To serve as a platform for promoting the use of OR in addressing key transport and logistics challenges.
  • To foster collaboration between academics and practitioners in public and private sectors.
  • To encourage the exchange of ideas, experiences, and best practices among our members.
  • To advocate for innovative research that contributes to sustainable, efficient, and effective transport and logistics systems.

What We Cover

TLSIG focuses on a wide range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Transport optimisation: Route planning, fleet planning, and multi-modal transport systems.
  • Urban mobility: OR approaches for smart cities, public transport, and last-mile delivery.
  • Air and Maritime Transport: Improving airport and airline operations, maritime transport and freight logistics with OR methods
  • Sustainability: Reducing emissions and energy consumption through OR-driven solutions.
  • Logistics management: Supply chain optimisation, warehousing, and freight network design.
  • Emerging trends: Applications of AI and ML, autonomous robotic systems, digital twins, and blockchain in transport and logistics.

Who Should Join?

TLSIG welcomes professionals from diverse backgrounds, including:

  • Academics and researchers exploring OR methodologies in transport and logistics.
  • Industry practitioners working on operational challenges in freight, urban mobility, and supply chains.
  • Policymakers and consultants seeking evidence-based strategies to improve transport systems.

Whether you are part of a government agency, private enterprise, or academic institution, TLSIG provides a collaborative space to discuss, innovate, and apply OR principles in transport and logistics.

Our Goals

  • Knowledge sharing: Disseminating insights into the latest OR research in transport and logistics.
  • Collaboration: Bridging the gap between academic research and industry practice.
  • Impact: Promoting sustainable, cost-effective, and operationally efficient transport solutions.
  • Capacity building: Supporting professional development through workshops, seminars, executive teaching, and networking events.

Join us for our next event:

ORS Annual Conference OR68: From Data to Decisions

8–10 September 2026
University of Nottingham, United Kingdom

For those working in transport and logistics, OR68 offers a forum to explore how analysis supports the planning, movement, and coordination of people and goods. The conference brings together practitioners and researchers to share approaches to optimisation, forecasting, simulation, and network design, with a focus on improving reliability, efficiency, and resilience across transport and supply systems.
